Toys ‘R’ Us Is Planning A Huge US Comeback

There’s good news for parents who miss the all-you-can shop toy store, Toys R Us. That’s because there are new reports that say the kid favorite retail giant is planning a huge comeback after shutting its doors late last year. Now it looks like their closing wasn’t permanent, as the company has big plans for the near future.

Geoffrey the Giraffe is dusting his shoes, polishing back his hair, and fixing his tie after having spent the last year on a hiatus. According to CNN Business Week, many Toys R Us fans have expressed interest in bringing back the store to the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia after the company closed doors in these three nations back in 2017. In fact, business is still pretty solid for Toys R Us stores that are still open throughout many parts of Europe, Asia, and Canada.

Former global chief merchandising officer at Toys R Us, Richard Barry, says there’s hope that the store will come back Stateside. He’s now the CEO of a new company called Tru Kids Brands that took over the rights to Toys R Us last year.

He told CNN in an interview, “We have significant interest about how to bring the brand back to the US.”

Unfortunately, he didn’t specify how he plans on bringing back the stores, but said he and his team are considering many options that include “a whole series of different companies, some are existing retailers, some tech companies.”

While many millennial moms are finding different and unique ways to shop (and mostly online) a survey from Pew indicated that one of the reasons why stores like Toys R Us and Sears are falling down like a stack of wobbly cards is because these same millennial moms aren’t having enough kids. That’s right: there aren’t enough children tugging at their mother’s maternity jeans and begging to head to the nearest toy store for the latest Nintendo Switch game. Luckily, retail giants such as Target and Amazon have managed to fill the gaping hole that Toys R Us left behind by expanding their own toy sections with the latest toys and crazes.

For now, there isn’t much that millennial parents can do other than to sit back and hold on tight to their wallets before Toys R Us makes their next move. That, or they can simply stop by their neighborhood Target for another shopping run, where they will not only get a special gift for their kids but a special something for themselves, too.
